As a charity, now more than ever, the NHRM in Newmarket needs your support to ensure we can continue to share the 350-year-old story of horseracing located in the historic Palace of Charles II for future generations to enjoy.
Our work to preserve and promote this national archive, with many works on loan from some of the world's most famous collections of sporting art, needs funding and donations to preserve our work with family and education programmes. The museum complex, which won the EADT 2020 'Small Visitor Attraction of the Year' award was opened by Her Majesty The Queen, tells the compelling story of horseracing.
From interactive exhibits that celebrate the history of the sport to our amazing collection of sporting art in the King's quarters of Palace House, to the beautiful Rothschild Yard where racehorses are retrained and rehabilitated, to revolving art exhibitions in our contemporary gallery spaces, Palace House is a unique experience for everyone.
As a charity and an independent museum, donations enable us to care for our vast collections and large labour intensive site in order to tell the exciting stories of horseracing since 1666. Following advice from Public Health England, we have had to close the museum to the public due to the Covid-19 emergency. We rely heavily on the visitor income we receive from ticket purchases to continue our important work for future generations to enjoy.
We would, therefore, be extremely grateful if you would consider donating, or creating a fundraising initiative for us, however small, to add your support means an incredible amount to us and the animals we care for and work with The Retraining of Racehorses charity, located within our Museum grounds. The charity promotes the versatility and adaptability of racehorses for other equestrian activities following their retirement from racing. It also protects horse welfare through a nationwide ‘safety net’ that is available to assist any former racehorse considered ‘vulnerable’. In such cases, the charity provides funding for the provision of expert care prior to suitable rehoming.
