From 3rd July – October 2017 we will be showing a new exhibition, ‘On Your Bike: The Art of Cycling. A ride through the history and science of cycling.’
This exhibition, in our upstairs exhibion gallery is to celebrate the Tour of Britain, which will start in Newmarket in September. The Tour of Britain is British Cycling's premier road cycling event, giving cycling fans the opportunity to see the world's best teams and riders competing on their doorstep.
The exhibition depicts the art and science of the bicycle, which has become a captivating subject for artists to reflect movement, speed and symbolise the haste and excitement of modernity.
Through prints, posters, photography and display panels, visitors will be able to explore how bicycles, and cycling have influenced popular culture and art, as well as learning the history and scientific developments that have secured it as one of Great Britain’s most popular sports today. Find out what similarities there are between horseracing and cycling, and reflect on early examples of bicycles - with a Penny Farthing on display – this really is an exhibition that any cycling enthusiast should not miss!
