Tour Guide & Gallery Assistant Jane O’Shea

4th May 2020

It is with very great sadness that I have to report that our guide and gallery assistant Jane O’Shea, died at the beginning of May 2020.

Jane O’Shea Jane O’Shea

Jane worked in the Horseracing Industry from 1978, primarily with Luca Cumani, then spending almost three decades at Somerville Lodge with William Haggas including looking after the brilliant Shaamit who went onto win the Derby in 1996. She started as a stable lass, and worked way her through the ranks to become Head Lad for Mr Haggas where she spent nearly her whole career. She was exceptionally proud to say that she was in charge of multiple Group winners, including winning the Derby with Shaamit in 1996–which was most certainly the pinnacle for Jane.

"Jane was a great asset to the museum and Discover Newmarket and her enthusiasm, passion and sense of humour will be much missed. Our thoughts are with her family at this very difficult time"
