By Car

For people travelling by car there are a number of car parks in Newmarket as shown on the map.  The two closest to the National Heritage Centre are Rous Road, CB8 8LX (short stay) and All Saints CB88ET (long stay) car parks. Please follow the parking signs and brown Museum signs when you reach Newmarket. For more details on all the Newmarket Car Parks please click here.

From the North

From Norwich - A11 past Barton Mills roundabout and then take A1304 signed Tattersalls.

From Bury St Edmunds - B1506 through Kentford.  From both directions drive down Bury Road to the Clock Tower Roundabout.  For Rous Road car park, take the first left at the Clock Tower Roundabout onto the Old Station Road. After 170 yards take the first right into Rous Road, continue round the corner, the car park is 100 yards on the left. Entrance to the National Heritage Centre can be accessed direct from this car park.  

For All Saints take the first exit at the Clock Tower roundabout take the first exit onto the B1063. Continue 0.2 miles and turn right down All Saints Road, at the roundabout take the second exit continuing along All Saints Road, go straight on at the cross roads and the car park is 200 yards on your left. The National Heritage Centre is a 200 yard walk – turn left out of the car park to the end of All Saints Road, then turn right up Palace Street.

From London/South

From London - A11 and then A1304 signed Newmarket. From Cambridge A1303 through Bottisham.  

From bothdirections, on reaching the Rearing Horse Roundabout, head for Newmarket town centre.  For Rous Road car park head up High Street passing Rutland Arms hotel to the Clock Tower Roundabout. Take the third exit at the roundabout onto the Old Station Road. After 170 yards take the first right into Rous Road, continue round the corner, the car park is 100 yards on the left. Entrance to the National Heritage Centre can be accessed direct from this car park. 

 For All Saints car park turn right at the first set of traffic lights on High Street. Turn left up Green Road, this is the third road on the left. Continue up Granary Road, at the roundabout take the first left onto All Saints Road, continue straight on at the cross roads and the car park is 200 yards on your left.

Coach parking only

There is on-site parking for pre-booked coaches.

From the North   At the Clock Tower Roundabout turn left down Old Station Road and then second right into Vicarage Road.  After 250 yards the coach entrance is on the right.

From the South   Proceed down the High Street to the Clock Tower Roundabout.  Take the third exit into Old Station Road and then second right into Vicarage Road.  After 250 yards the coach entrance is on the right.

By Train

Newmarket is served by trains from Ipswich and Cambridge. 

When leaving the station turn left up Green Road  and then right down Station Approach. At the bottom turn left into The Avenue. Tattersalls will be on your left. Carry on to the end of the road. Turn right at the lights into the High Street. Pass The Jockey Club  and then turn right by Cafe Nero into Sun Lane. At the top turn left. The Museum entrance is 50 yards on your right. The walk will take about 15 minutes.

Buses to Newmarket are available from London Victoria, Stansted, Cambridge and Great Yarmouth - the bus stop is on the High Street and just a 2 minute walk from Palace House up Sun Lane, next to Pizza Express. To find out the bus timetables visit:  

Accessible Parking:

There is parking for Blue Badge holders at Palace House, please enter the site via the entrance at Vicarage Road.
